Water. Nature needs it to grow healthy plants and herbs. Animals need it to grow strong and healthy. And it’s no surprise, we humans need it too.

Did you know the human body is made of more than 60 percent water?

Blood is 92 percent water, the brain and muscles are 75 percent water, and bones are about 22 percent water. (Water Facts)

This means water is the most essential nutrient in the body. It is responsible for the healthy function of of every organ, tissue and body part. It is also what helps the body to absorb vitamins and minerals that it needs while at the same time flushing out the things the body doesn’t need. The human body is one complex creation and it needs water to operate at maximum health.

Your body will even tell you when it’s thirsty. When we lose too much water without replacing it, we become dehydrated which can lead to diarrhea, liver problems and other health ailments. Most people can only stand to lose about 2-3% of hydration before their body gets thirsty. Even at just 1% of dehydration, we can start to experience brain fog and lose mental clarity.

Want your essential oils and other supplements to be even more effective? Drink more water. Need a quick mid-afternoon pick-me-up? Drink more water. Muscles tired from working out? Drink more water. Feeling hot or flush after working in the yard? You guessed it…Drink more water!

Water is essential for:

  • Carrying nutrients and oxygen to cells. Think of water as a carrier that helps the vitamins, minerals and supplements that you take get to the right places. Because water is made of oxygen, it also carries oxygen through the body to your cells.
  • Regulating the body temperature. Water helps to keep the body temperature from overheating.
  • Providing moisture and hydration to your mouth, eyes and nose. Yes, even these organs need water to function properly.
  • Protecting the body’s organs, tissues and joints. Water provides a moisture shield around the body’s internal tissues and organs.
  • Preventing constipation. A well hydrated body releases waste more regularly.
  • Dissolving minerals and nutrients to make them useful to the body. In addition to carrying the nutrients through the body, water helps the body absorb for maximum benefits.
  • Flushing your system. Water helps the kidney and liver flush out waste through sweat and urine.
Did you know? A human can survive for a month or more without eating food, but only a week or so without drinking water.

Simple Ways To Get In The Habit of Drinking More Water

  • Replace at least one other beverage that you would normally drink during the day with water.
  • For every cup of coffee or tea, drink at least one cup of water in addition to your normal intake.
  • Fill a 1-gallon container with water and make it your goal to finish it by the end of the day.
  • Drink your water from your favorite cup – for added bonus, drop in 1-2 drops of lemon, grapefruit or citrus fresh essential oil.
  • Eat water-rich foods such as watermelons, cucumbers, or tomatoes.
  • Keep a bottle of water with you as you run errands or travel. You’re more likely to drink it if it’s near you.
  • Choose water instead of soda or tea when eating out. You’ll save money and your body (and your wallet) will thank you.

You’ll be surprised how something as simple as drinking more water can support your goals of living a healthier lifestyle. Drink up!
