Top 7 Reasons To Drink More Water This Year
Many people start out the New Year with lofty resolutions that require massive action. Aiming for the stars is totally awesome, however, experts know the most simple actions produce the greatest results! In order to truly stick with our intentions, simple and consistent action is the best way to set ourselves up for success! Here are my top 7 reasons to drink more water this year!
1. Helps Us Release Excess Weight & Aids in Healthy Digestion
Drinking water about 20 to 40 minutes before a meal aids our stomachs in releasing old mucous and used up salt from the last meal. It then helps our bodies create a new mucous lining to better assimilate our next meal. Drinking and eating mineral rich salts (such as Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt) also aids in this process. Water is zero calories and fills up our stomachs so we feel more full. This can help us consume less calories at meal time and feel more satisfied with our meals.
2. Increases Brain Function & Increases Energy
Do you know that the most common cause of daytime fatigue, and even a headache, is actually mild dehydration? Our brain is approximately 80 percent water so a dehydrated brain will definitely affect our ability to focus and our memory. Besides, water and salt is the original “energy drink.” Water transports essential electrolytes to our cells and therefore plays a vital part in the energy production of our bodies. Water is the “fuel” our cells, including our brains, run on! Salt and water also have incredibly powerful pain relieving effects.
3. Helps Us Properly Detox & Aids Immune Function
Glutathione or GSH is our bodies master antioxidant, detoxifier, and immunity booster. When we are properly hydrated, our bodies are able to effectively generate it. Our kidneys also require lots of water to do their job of properly by filtering what we put in our bodies and eliminating toxins. It also prevents constipation, of course. A healthy gut is absolutely essential for overall health. Water aids in lessening congestion which helps keep our bodies in better condition in order to ward off many seasonal colds and flus.
4. Improves Skin Health & Radiance
The best beauty treatment is an abundant supply of fresh water! Hydrated skin cells promote skin elasticity and a healthy, glowing appearance. Trapped mucous and toxins in the body can also contribute to skin issues. So proper elimination and detoxification is key in radiant skin as well!
5. Builds Muscles
Our muscles are made up of about 70 percent water so they require a lot of water to function properly, especially to build more muscle. Muscle cramps are a sign of fluid and electrolyte imbalance. It is smart to drink some water with a pinch of sea salt before a workout or at bedtime to prevent cramps. Drinking water can also significantly reduce joint and back pain because it lubricates them. Everything feels better when it’s lubricated!
6. Improves Mood
Common signs of dehydration are irritability, confusion, and frustration. Recent studies have shown the greater the water consumption, the better the mood. Tension, depression, and confusion scores went down when water intake went up! So the next time you are feeling stressed go drink a glass of water as you take a few deep breaths.
7. Reduces Risk of Cancer, Heart Attack, & Stroke
Water keeps cells healthy and may be responsible for combating many types of cancer including colon, bladder, and breast cancer. In addition, with the proper electrolyte balance our bodies risk of heart attack and stroke decreases significantly. This is one of the greatest benefits of staying properly hydrated, especially for athletes – young and old!
- Stay away from iodized “table” salt at mealtime. Stick to any kind of pure sea salt or Himalayan “pink” salt
- Invest in a large stainless steel water bottle such as a “Klean Kanteen.” Keep it full and keep it with you at all times!
- Drink pure filtered alkaline water. Reverse Osmosis is a great choice. Also mineral water and organic coconut water are very hydrating choices.
- Add a few drops of Young Living Citrus Essential Oils to liven up your water such as Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Lime, or Citrus Fresh Blend. (Stay away from plastic cups, especially when adding essential oils)
- Infuse your water with fresh citrus, cucumber, fruit.
