Essential oils are nature’s answer to restoring mental, physical and spiritual well being. Did you know there are actually 4 ways to use essential oils?

Topically by Rubbing Onto the Skin

The most common way to use essential oils is to apply them directly to the affected area. Many essential oils are safe to use directly on the skin. Popular areas include back of the neck, temples, soles and tops of feet, abdomen, and upper back and spine. To use, place 2–3 drops of oil in the palm of your hand or directly on the desired area while massaging the oil in a circular motion onto the skin.

Internally by Eating, Drinking or Inside a Capsule

A number of essential oils work well as dietary supplements or food flavorings. To take the oils internally, you can place a few drop into a gel capsule and swallow with water, add 1–2 drops to your meals when cooking , or simply add 1–2 drops to a glass of water or your favorite beverage or smoothie.


Diffusing allows the oils to stay suspended in the air to reduce airborne fungi and mold. It also freshens the air with natural fragrances, eliminating the need for synthetic, harmful air fresheners. The diffuser disperses the oils without heat, which could render the essential oils less effective. When inhaling an oil that is diffused, it takes 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain.


Inhaling certain essential oils heightens the senses and can have many positive effects. There are 3 primary ways to inhale essential oils. You can inhale the oil directly from the bottle or pour a few drops into the palms of your hand and cup your hands over your nose. Another effective way to inhale is to pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of oil, then cover your head and the bowl in a tent-like fashion with a towel and breathe deeply and slowly.

Of all 4 ways, inhaling essential oils can be very effective in healing and restoration. When you recognized that essential oils are made up of the primary element of oxygen, then it helps you to understand how it is that essential oils can give oxygen in the human being–whether you are inhaling it, whether you are rubbing it on, or whether you are taking it as a food supplement. As a therapeutic remedy, when you breathe an oil into the system through the nasal cavity, it is first picked up by the neurons that hang down from the olefactory, right between the eyes, in the top of the sinus cavity. Those oil molecules are carried within milliseconds into the center of the brain. The brain in response sends back signals to the body that can provide therapeutic relief to certain symptoms.

This is what makes inhaling the oils so effective. It is the fastest way to get the oils into the blood stream.
