The fall is the perfect time to turn your home into a relaxing haven. With the change in the weather, we’ll have a reprieve from the hot summer temperatures just before it gets too chilly in the winter. From work all day, to managing your kids’ schedules to managing and taking care of your home, you’re probably overdue for some “me” time. I’ll share with you some simple ways to bring peace and balance into your home and make it the ultimate place of restoration for your whole family.

Turn Your Bathroom Into A Spa Retreat

Put together your favorite bath gels, essential oils along with epsom salt and oatmeal in a basket near your bath tub. When you need to relax, draw a bath and drop in 4-5 drops each of your favorite oils such as Lemon and Lavender or Peace & Calming (or Stress Away) with Lemon or Orange. Eucalyptus is a great essential oil for bath time as well as it helps open the sinuses and reduces nervous tension. Along with your favorite oils, add either 1 scoop of epsom salt or 1 scoop of oatmeal.

Epsom salts are great for relaxing tired muscles and relieves daily stress. It also soothes dry skin and works great for a mild body scrub. Oatmeal helps to soothe dry, itchy skin, helps balance the skin’s natural pH. Whether you choose epsom salt or oatmeal, you’re in for a relaxing treat since they both work wonders for restoring the skin’s natural moisture and the essential oils create a relaxing mood. Aaaahhh…

Not time for a long bath? Soak your feet. The same recipe works for a great foot soak, just use 1/3 of the amount of oils and only half of the epsom salt or oatmeal.

And don’t just stop with bath time, extend your spa experience by creating your own facial masks from essential oils like Frankincense, Purification, Ylang Ylang or Lemon. Here’s a quick facial mask recipe to try:

Essential Oils Rejuvenating Spa Facial Mask

Essential Oils Facial Mask DIY
Ingredients
1 Tablespoon of Ground oatmeal
1 teaspoon of honey
1 tablespoon of coconut oil (melted)
1/2 cup warm water
3-4 drops of either Lemon or Frankincense or Ylang Ylang essential oil

Instructions
Mix the ground oats and just enough warm water until you form a thick paste. Then mix in honey and essential oil. The paste shouldn’t be too runny. If so, add more oatmeal to thicken. If it’s still too thick, add a little more water.
Apply the mask and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by your favorite moisturizer.

Benefits
Both the oatmeal and the coconut oil work wonders for adding moisture to the skin, while the essential oils of lemon, frankincense and Ylang Ylang act as natural skin toners, removing junks and clearing your pores. Apply as often as twice a week for happy, refreshed skin.

Note: Please check for allergies before applying these ingredients. If you are sensitive to oatmeal or any of the other ingredients, try an alternative.

Create a Relaxation Zone In Your Favorite Spot

Declare a room or even just your favorite chair a Relaxation Zone in your home. In your “Zone,” place your favorite magazines, books, blanket, fuzzy socks or activity. If you’re using essential oils, put your diffuser in your zone and diffuse your favorite oils to fill the air and set the mood. It’s your space to do whatever makes you relax and recharge. Make sure everyone knows the “rules” when you’re in the “Zone,” so you don’t get distracted or disturbed. You’ll be amazed how tensions are relieved and moods change when you give yourself few minutes to just unwind. Not only will you benefit from this, but so will your family.

Make Bed Time A Peaceful Experience

Here’s a life-saving tip: Diffuse lavender essential oil at bed time. Get a diffuser for your kids’ rooms and keep your supply lavender essential oil on hand. About 10 minutes before bed time, turn on the diffusers and let lavender do its work. Even the grumpiest child seems to calm down when you diffuse the right oil. Lavender has been known for years to be relaxing and calming and I’m telling you it works wonders for lulling you to sleep.

Who says you have to have a two-week vacation to recharge? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for time off and away from it all, but don’t miss out on the opportunities you have to “sneak away” right in your own home.
